JAMES BOND - A license to thrill!
O-Ten's tribute to celebrate over 50 years of the most successful and longest running British film franchise in history.
THE JAMES BOND STYLE
Vintage 1960's Cyril Castle Suit.
Cyril made all of Roger Moore's suits for the cult ITC 1960's TV show The Saint, he then designed suits for Roger as James Bond.
All of Sean Connery's suits were made by Anthony Sinclair. Anthony and Cyril were very close friends and completed the Conduit Street triangle with Doug Hayward, who designed Michael Caine's suits for The Italian Job and Get Carter.
Cyril's trademarks to his suits was the gauntlet cuff which he gave the suit jacket. This can be seen in all the coloured episodes of The Saint and most of the suits of Roger Moore as Bond.
The suit used in this photo shoot was owned by the late actor Richard Todd OBE, who was Ian Fleming's first choice as James Bond! - www.thesuitsofjamesbond.com

The Cocktail Cuff
Apart from making all of Sean Connery's suits for James Bond, the creative director from Anthony Sinclair, David Mason, kindly provided the James Bond 'Cocktail Cuff' shirt for this shoot.
It was Anthony Sinclair who created the quintessential James Bond style, starting with
Dr No.
This beautiful shirt can be seen in all of Sean Connery's Bond outings - www.anthonysinclair.com

The Watch.
I chose the 1966 Omega Chronostop Geneve as I believe this would have made a great Bond watch as it is elegant and oozes sophistication.
Bond has been associated with Omega since 1995 and the Geneve was aimed at the playboy or racer, even with traits of the Flightmaster.
This watch was kindly sourced and supplied by Adam Dubilo who specialises in vintage watches - www.adamvintage.com

The Woven Strap.
In this shoot I also used a diver's watch with a woven strap. For many years fans believed Bond wore a black/grey NATO strap in Goldfinger and Thunderball. They recently discovered the strap is actually black, red and green and is an Air Force style strap with a fabric retainer.
The strap I used was manufactured in England, using a 1950's loom and stitched just like the James Bond strap from the 1960's. For the record, Bond never wore a NATO strap.
This strap is available in 18mm & 20mm thickness and available in brushed or polished stainless steel buckles. These were kindly supplied by Jim Seal - www.ebay.co.uk/usr/aliasmarlow

Completing The Look.
In all of Sean Connery's outings as Bond, he wore a navy blue woven grenadine silk tie. In Goldfinger he wore the famous Anthony Sinclair Prince of Wales check suit with a navy blue silk knitted tie, this is the tie I decided to use for this shoot. This is a vintage Lanvin tie - www.vintage201.com
Completing the look is a pair of stylish slip on Chelsea Boots, as worn by Sean Connery in the early part of Goldfinger and Thunderball -

007 - A LICENSE TO KILL
In Ian Fleming's novels and the derived films, the 00 Section of MI6 is considered the secret service's elite.
The 00 secret agent holds a license to kill in the field, at his/her discretion, to complete the mission.
Geoffrey Boothroyd, who was a huge James Bond fan wrote to Ian Fleming and advised him that no secret agent would use a Beretta as it is classed as a ladies gun with a soft leather holster. Geoffrey suggested Bond should use a light gun with more impact.
Hence the change to a Walther PPK as the weapon of choice for James Bond - www.bbguns4less.co.uk

THE CARS
Aston Martin
It is hard to imagine James Bond behind the wheel of anything but an Aston Martin! It's a love affair between two British icons that is set to last.
It is now 50 years to the DB5's first outing in 1964's Goldfinger. Daniel Craig drove a DB9 in Casino Royale.

BMW Z3
Pierce Brosnan used the BMW Z3 in Goldeneye. The sleek lined convertible is primarily a pleasure tool for Bond during his mission, with lots of extra gadgetry supplied by Q.
This car was featured in the film months before it was available to buy, unfortunately it became available to the public without the gadgetry.
Kindly supplied by John Peter Street.

And finally... The Bentley.
In the Bond novels, Casino Royale and Moonraker, James drives one of the last 4.5 litre Bentleys with Supercharger.
This car is also referenced in From Russia With Love and Never Say Never Again.
The Bentley used in this shoot is a Bentley Arnage T Mulliner, kindly supplied by Len Winterbottom - www.a1tyreservices.co.uk

BOND GIRLS - DRESSED TO KILL
Goldfinger.
Who can forget the iconic scene in Goldfinger where Jill Masterson (Shirley Eaton) is found dead lying on the bed covered head to toe in gold paint?!
I decided it would make for a fantastic tribute to paint one of the Bond girls in gold paint, so here is Abigail Lee (above) head to toe in gold with a photo superimposed across her.
The gold paint is skin friendly and was sourced by Hayley Young MUA - Hayley SFX
Pussy Galore.
Pussy is one of the more famous Bond characters, due to her name and the portrayal of her by Honor Blackman.
She is not only Goldfinger's personal pilot, but also the leader of the group called the Pussy Galore's Flying Circus, who work as part of Goldfinger's Operation Grandslam.
Sarah Brodie (left) portrays Pussy Galore in this shoot.

Dr No.
The red dress is regarded by many to be the most iconic dress.
This was worn by Sylvia Trench (Eunice Gayson) in the famous opening scene at the casino in
Dr No, where Sean Connery first introduces himself in the casino as Bond, James Bond.
Sylvia was originally going to be in every Bond film, as a back up agent to James. However, when the director was changed for Goldfinger, this idea was dropped.
Sylvia Trench is portrayed by Chloe Conroy (right), wearing a red dress based on Sylvia's dress.
The stunning dresses in this shoot were all hand made by Cecilia Pizarro Compillay.

Honey Ryder.
In the 1962 film Dr No, Honey Ryder made the most iconic entrance of any Bond girl when she walks out of the sea in her famous Chanel white bikini.
Honey was played by Ursula Andress, however due to her heavy accent she was dubbed by Nikki Vander Zyle.
In a recent poll of Bond girls, Honey Ryder was voted the No.1 Bond girl of all time.
This scene was recreated by Halle Berry (Jinx) in Die Another Day in 2002.

LOCATION
Operation Grandslam.
It is now 50 years since the first screening of Goldfinger, so The Hull Aero Club was chosen because I felt it was the best backdrop I could ever wish for with all its helicopters, planes and microlights, so very James Bond and so perfect for Pussy Galore's Flying Circus!
A huge thank you to Peter Spencer - The Hull Aero Club www.rmaviation.co.uk
This location was suggested by a big fan of Bond, Graham Monkman.
